STORY
There are places we pass so often that eventually we almost stop seeing them.
Rockhampton's Customs House is one of those places for me. It sits within a city I know well, yet when I stopped and looked more closely, I began to notice the grandeur in its curves, the strength of its columns and the intricate details that speak of another time.
I chose to photograph the building in black and white because without colour, something else comes forward. Shape becomes stronger. Texture matters. Light and shadow reveal the craftsmanship, while the surrounding foliage creates an almost natural frame around the architecture.
I found myself wondering about all the people who have climbed those steps and the stories that have passed through those doors.
Legacy in Stone is also a reminder that we don't always need to travel to discover something worth photographing. There is history, beauty and story all around us - sometimes in the very places we walk past every day.
