STORY
We ascended into the early morning light, the engine of the Cessna humming steadily as we soared over Shark Bay. The world below unfolded like a secret painting, revealing its hidden wonders. Big Lagoon, nestled in the embrace of Francois Peron National Park, seemed to shimmer beneath us, a surreal palette of blues, greens, and reds stretching out like a dreamscape.
From above, the lagoon's curves and colours mesmerised, the stillness of the water contrasting with the rugged, fiery landscape. It felt like we were floating between two realms, suspended in time. The water’s surface glistened, reflecting the sky’s gentle hues while the shoreline, painted in earthy tones, added a bold contrast. The series of lagoons formed an intricate tapestry, as if the land and sea were silently whispering to each other, sharing their ancient stories.
As I peered down from the door, the sheer vastness and tranquillity of the scene took hold. It was a landscape carved by time yet alive in the present moment, and for a fleeting second, it felt like the lagoon below was part of another world entirely.
